Mormonism Debunked

originally posted by dimmer on Friday September 10, @03:47AM from the how-can-they-believe-this-sh*t dept. I have been wanting to research and write an article like this for some time, but Kyle J. Gerkin beat me to it, and now I don't have to. This is a beautiful article debunking Mormonism. Here is the link (mirror).

For those of you who are too lazy to read it, here are some highlights:
Joseph Smith "translated" golden plates given to him by God into english, but he did not translate the "reformed egyptian" into contemporary english - instead he translated them into King James style english. Coincidentally, Joe Smith grew up reading the King James Bible.
The Book of Mormon claims the following tools existed in ancient MesoAmerica: chariots, steel swords, bellows for blacksmithing, and silk. None of these were in the Americas until the Columbian exchange.
The BoM describes a vast civilization of millions who inhabited cities for hundreds of years, yet no ruins from even a single BoM city have ever been identified. No BoM place-names were in use when Europeans arrived in the New World.
The BoM peoples had a seven-day week, but no Mesoamerican calendar matches this.
The BoM refers to animals and crops that did not exist in America until Columbus arrived: ass, bull, calf, cattle, cow, domestic goat, horse, ox, domestic sheep, sow, swine, elephants, wheat, and barley.
The BoM says that the Native Americans descended from Hebraic (Semitic) origins. However through archaeology and DNA testing, we know that Native Americans descend from Asiatic origins.
There are no examples of "reformed Egyptian" in Mesoamerican history. And no Native American language is related to either ancient Egyptian or Hebrew, whereas a relationship does exist between Native American languages and Asian (Siberian) languages.
As shown in the Mormon South Park Episode, a woman stole a "translation" from Joseph Smith, and demanded that he replace it with an exact copy saying, "If this be a divine communication, the same being that revealed it to you can easily replace it." Smith refused, and wrote the same manuscript from a different point of view.
Joseph Smith was given real egyptian from an ancient Egyptian burial to translate (this was pre-Rosetta stone, and Egyptian could not be read). Modern day scholars agree that his translation is entirely manufactured and incorrect.
How can Mormons believe this obvious bologna? In addition - Before Joe Smith "found" the golden plates - he claimed to be able to find gold. He defrauded some people of their money, who ended up digging into the ground and surprise - found nothing.

o.O

Joseph Smith was called a prophet - Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb
He started the Mormon religion - Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb
...
He found the stones and golden plates - Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb
Even though nobody else ever saw them - Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb

...etc. etc. Jeez. People are funny. Tragically so, at times...

I am on a blog site right

I am on a blog site right now were a women is talking about just joining the Mormon religion but she doesn't know the answers to any questions we give and another Mormon just keeps saying he prayed and knows it's true, which I know for a fact they tell them to say. It seems strange to me that people would so boldly believe something they can't defend. As a Catholic I take great pride in knowing that I can answer the questions and defend the myths. It seems to me they can't debunk the myths because they are just that, myths. Thanks for the info on this site. I finally have some answers I have been looking for.
Thanks

Yes Mormonism is one of the

Yes Mormonism is one of the few religions which has historical evidence available to contradict its myths. Scientology is another. But lacking contradictory historical evidence doesn't make a myth less mythical.

Zomie Jesus

You take PRIDE in being able

You take PRIDE in being able to defend your Catholic Myths? Wow, you would be the first. They are indefensible as far as I have seen thus far. You have no answer for the OT, nor the condoning of slavery, nor the cruel and violent outbursts of Jesus, or the bizarre actions he undertook. So wierd, and so indefensible.

Peace

Great Site. I was once an

Great Site. I was once an idiot! I did not question, I was actually married in the Temple. Women are not given much power. IN fact my wife will be waiting for me to come and get her out of the ground when CHrist comes. I have to say the special name and give the special hand shake other wise she will remain.

They would not let me into the Temple unless I had paid a full 10% of my income. Yet they call their selves a non-profit organization. Plus they own several business's that make millions of dollars each year.

Yea a friend of mine who was

Yea a friend of mine who was 27 years old and still a virgin was a mormon. He had to eat cold soup, and a bunch of other little stupid horse shit rules.

Then he met a girl that my girlfriend use to go to school with. Two weeks of dating her he told me he was going to marry her. Two weeks later they got married. Family and friends were only allowed to go to the reception because everyone was not good enough to go into their temple.

Mormons are so fucking stupid.
And he liked to talk shit on every other religion.

This read is false and

This read is false and really easy to debunk..
The one that wrote this is either stupid or lazy.
The note that was wrote can be debunked easy..
Google the mormons leader and you will find the real awnsers.
The mormon church is not true and beliving in the easter bunny is no diffrent and i feel that this read is creating there own bunny......

You might be in danger of

You might be in danger of proving a point if you actually cite an objective source, instead of saying "google what the mormons wrote". If you trust religions to be objective about their own history then I've got some beachfront property in New Orleans for you. Also please note that my source makes liberal use of citations which one would have to refute.

i really cant believe people

i really cant believe people are mormons or jehovah's witnesses or scientologists.. its all just insane. Why would you believe a religion that was created a few centuries ago by mere men who havent done anything out of the ordinary but create rules and new concepts - basically start a new religion - there isnt even any proof that they got touched by "god" or something. I respect people who believe in older faiths that DO have some substance than these "newer" religions

I can start my own as well and I hope you dumb idiots follow me.

ALLL OF YOU SHUT THE FUCK

ALLL OF YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP. ANY RELIGION IS FUCKING STUPID....TO YOU(JACK ASS WHO WROTE THIS)"by mere men who havent done anything out of the ordinary but create rules and new concepts." WHO THE HELL IS JESUS OR MOHAMMAD OR GOD FOR THAT MATTER?? THEY ARE ALL MADE UP THOUGHTS AND WRITTEN BY WHO??? OH MAN! SO ANY ONE WHO BELIEVES IN THIS STUPID GARBAGE, SUCH AS GOD, CAN GO KILL YOUR SELF AND GO TO HEAVEN BECAUSE WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE ALIVE ANYWAY IF ITS SOOOOOO AWESOME THERE? HAHA DUMBASSES ARE SHEEP AND BELIEVE ANY OLD BULLSHIT

Wow dude. HOLY FUCKING SHIT

Wow dude. HOLY FUCKING SHIT MAN I CANNOT BELIEVE AN ATHEIST GOT THIS MAD OVER THE FACT THAT WHAT YOU SEE AS IGNORANT PEOPLE HAVE DISCUSSING A RELIGION ALBEIT NOT IN THE MOST RESPECTFUL WAY BUT... Alright I am stopping that caps lock shit. What the fuck is your problem?

Did a priest touch you? If so sorry guy someone give this person a hug it might help. I am kinda scared he has a pipe bomb or something so please the next Mormon volunteer please step up. I have a telegraph from god... You say it looks like a child's scribble... No that is GOD LANGUAGE MAN... It says... Organize mass suicide and plant pipe bomb on crazed jack ass... Thank you for your cooperation.

It's just as insane to

It's just as insane to believe the words of some ancient prophet as it is a recent one, so it's a bit strange to 'have respect' for one bullshit story just because it has had the benefit of several more centuries of existence in order to establish itself, and work out its rules and regulations. Christianity, Judaism, and Muslim beliefs are just as inane as Mormonism, and what makes it worse is that all four religions are constantly fighting over who gets to be the A-number-one saved peoples at Judgement Day . . . an event that all four seem to be intent on rushing towards.

If anything, the creation of Scientology, Mormonism, and other recent branches of faith should serve as a clear model of how easy it is to dupe masses of people into believing just about anything. Belief in white angels that claim to be Native Americans isn't really anymore outlandish than believing in ancient space lords called Xenu, a virgin-born child that rises from the dead, or a god that's obsessed with mankind's eating and sexual habits, and has more tantrums and destroys either the earth or His chosen people more often than a brat on a sugar high.

It baffles me as to why

It baffles me as to why anyone thinks that ANY religion has any sort of credibility, especially when you do have the examples provided to us in modern times such as Mormonism, or Scientology, and just how easy it is to dupe masses of people that, for whatever reason, need some sort validation for spiritual belief by needing to be part of a group of others that think the same way they do. There is little in the way of credibility or difference in believing in a virgin-born zombie, a Native American Hebrew angel, an ancient space lord named Xenu, or a god that seems to have far too much time on His hands as He obsesses about mankinds sexual and eating habits while consistently having tantrums and destroying the world and/or the Chosen People on a regular basis (depending on who's the 'chosen' ones, considering that all of the Abrahamic faiths are fighting over who gets to be top dog at Judgement Day . . . an event all seem to be determined to be rushing towards while the rest of the sane planet is trying to contemplate a future instead of the end).

I was raised Catholic,

I was raised Catholic, converted to Baptist and have read and sought to "understand" most major religious texts to include the Book of Mormon. I agree with Mark Twain, the Mormon Bible is "chloroform in print".

I personally gave up all belief in a personal god after seeing children killed by a suicide bomber in Iraq who I suppose believed that he was fulfilling god's will. Any goodness comes from sane caring humans who will take action to try to make the world a better place for children.

Bible stories or fairy tales are nice when they give examples of the reward gained when people are able to get along. But they are just stories.

The Mormons are fairly good about getting along but at some level their goodness rings hollow because the impetus of their actions are baseless beliefs.
